Current positions: Board member of Wye Valley and Forest of Dean Tourism Association (Director and Chair).
Brief experience: Ian has over 30 years’ experience in the Tourism Sector having been Operations Director at PGL Travel for a large part of his career. Leaving the corporate world five years ago to develop and grow Pedalabikeaway and BikePark Wales has given Ian a unique insight into the challenges facing both big and small businesses within the local and national tourism sectors.
More recently within the WVFDTA Ian has been responsible as Chair for developing the relationship and partnerships with Forest of Dean District Council and Monmouthshire County Council – helping to secure significant funding for the Association’s ongoing marketing efforts and the appointment of our Executive Director.
Key skills: Operations, Strategy, Leadership, Partnership development, external funding and SLA management, destination management and IT development.
Reasons for being a board member: Ian believes that we are extremely lucky to live work and play in such a fantastic environment. Members of the Tourism Association provide amazing experiences for visitors to our area and thinks we can continue to improve the ways we represent the Forest of Dean and Wye Valley to national and international tourism markets. Working closely together, and with our strategic partners, he feels we can help to increase the number of visitors, improve the quality of our offer and grow the value of tourism to the area.
He actively represents the association and destination at the highest level, with both local, regional and national government agencies. Ian has been instrumental in taking the association to the next level and is keen to remain in a position which will provide effective leadership into the future.
