Members’ meeting and AGM

Our next members meeting and our Annual General Meeting takes place on Thursday 23 March 2017, 14.00 to 16.00 at The Chase Hotel, Ross-on-Wye.  This will be an attractions and activities showcase event, enabling our visitor attractions and activities to have a stand/display and to talk to accommodation providers and other tourism business members about their offer, plans for 2017, events and to give away leaflets. The meeting will also include our AGM details of which will be sent out shortly .  Further details.

Days Out Guide

We are now working on a new edition of our Days Out Guide covering attractions, activities, shopping and places to eat and drink.  All members in these categories should have received information but if you didn’t, contact Lisa at Morf Designs, or 01633 253995.  If you wish to advertise, you have to be quick as forms are due in this week.

English and Wales Tourism Weeks

You will be aware that we encourage members to put on special offers or events to coincide with these annual tourism weeks that highlight our industry and raise its profile both locally and nationally. English Tourism Week is 25 March to 2 April and Wales Tourism Week is slightly later, 15 to 21 May. Full details are on our member s’ website and the offers sent in for English Tourism Week are on our public website.  Have a look at what is on offer and there is still time to make an offer of your own – send it to

Vote for our Tourism Superstar

Grant available for Gloucestershire tourism businesses

A new £1.5 million capital grant to grow businesses and create jobs within the tourism sector in rural Gloucestershire has been launched.  Organisations are being invited to submit expressions of interest to the Rural Development Programme for England (RDPE) Growth Programme. The grant is applicable for land-owners,  groups representing rural communities, charities and public bodies. The overarching aim of the fund is to encourage visitors to spend more time and money in the rural parts of the GFirst LEP area.  In addition to the new funding RDPE, capital grants are currently available to rural micro and small businesses from the LEADER programme for projects across all sectors that create new jobs and increase productivity or bring money into the rural economy.  Further details.

Fully funded training courses to help your business grow

Skills Support for the Workforce (SSW) is a programme developed to upskill employees within small and medium-sized businesses in Gloucestershire. Serco provide recognised accredited qualifications and bespoke training courses to enhance your employees’ skills relating to Low Carbon or Science, Technology, Engineering and Maths (STEM), increase the competitiveness of your business and boost the local economy.  Further details.

Dean Heritage Centre

The Dean Heritage Centre are in the process of rebranding and would love to hear your thoughts.  As residents of the area, as well as business owners in the industry, we would love to hear what you think about the centre and how it should portray itself.  Please take 2-3 minutes to complete this very short survey so that we can gather as many different views as possible, which will help feed in to the journey that we are currently on.  We would be grateful if you could please complete the survey by Friday 24 March, to allow us time to collate the views.  The link can be found at

Sale of furnishings from self-catering cottage

Former member Claire Mizen from Parkend is selling furnishings and linen from her cottage that she no longer lets.  The sale includes linen, beds, furniture, white goods, utensils, crockery, glasses etc.  A full list can be downloaded and Claire can be contacted on 01594 844856 or


Well done to Hillside Brewery from Longhope, the newly announced Rural Oscars Champions for the South West in Tourism Enterprise category. The Awards are the Countryside Alliance’s annual celebration of rural produce, skills, enterprise and heritage, now in their twelfth year and have become the definitive rural business award to win.  Further details.  Good luck for the British finals, to be held at Parliament in London on 22nd March.
