Email Scams

On this page we list some of the more common email scams. In all cases, the action is the same:

  • Do not open any attachments
  • Do not reply to it
  • Do not forward to email to anyone else, even if you are recommended to do so
  • Delete the message

Top tip: Take a look at the from address. If it is something like outlook_4901f679424e4573@outlook.com then it is most likely a scam. Not only this, but look at the “to” address – ‘undisclosed-recipients’ will often be a scam.

In many cases, if you take a key phrase from the email and enter into Google, you will find many similar or identical examples listed often going back over many years.

Reservation Enquiry

I want to make a reservation in your facility for four (4) newly ordained priests from Greece, they will be visiting your country for a seven (7) day religious program in the month of June 2010.

Please check availability and get back to me with the costs for the duration of their stay in 4 rooms for single occupancy or 2 Twin rooms for Double occupancy, for the seven nights starting from 10th June – 17th June, then I can make deposit to book the rooms.

I look forward to hearing from you shortly.

Kind Regards,
Andy

Domain Renewal Scam

If you receive a domain renewal notice from the ‘Domain Registry of America’ sent by post with option to pay by credit card, IGNORE IT. If you acknowledge it, you will be transferring ownership of your website address to their ownership, and they will then be able to charge you for the use of what you previously owned. If you then don’t pay what they ask, they will be able to take down your website.More details.
